staying safe and having fun

in PSHE this half term we’re looking at how to stay safe while we do fun things. This week, we’ve been learning about the importance of rules while playing games outside, and we’ve made posters about how to stay safe in the sun. We’ve got some great ideas and we clearly know how to make sure we are safe.
when we were playing games outside it was great to see us playing safely and listening to different rules so that we could play safely.

Busy Bees

We’ve had a super busy week this week! This week we’ve started learning all about the Great Fire of London. Today’s history lesson focused on the timeline of events including when it started, where it was and how long the fire went on for. We had lots of knowledge about this already, we were very impressive.

We’ve also started learning how to use a BeeBot. This little bee gives us the chance to practice creating a sequence of movements for the bee to make. The first lesson has just been a chance to figure out the different things the BeeBot can do, next week our challenges will be to move them around different objects. Wish us luck!

Leeds City Museum

we’ve had such a great day at the museum today. It was lovely seeing how engaged everyone was and it was such a great experience for everyone there. We got to see so many interesting things, from the Ancient Egyptians to how music in Leeds has changed over the last 50 years. We solved puzzles, drew pictures and had a great day learning lots of new things!

order the numbers

In maths, we’ve been practicing out numbers to 20. We’ve become super at counting forwards and backwards, but we decided to challenge ourselves but playing a missing number game. We worked in teams to take turns in hiding a number (or two!) from our number line, before our team mates had to guess which number we’d hidden. It was great fun and everyone got so involved!

computer savvy

This week we got to go into the computer room to explore how to log in to the computers, open up Paint and experiment with the different tools we could use! Our challenge was to try and create a self portrait and the children all had a really good go. It was great fun exploring the tools we needed and it was a great opportunity to work on our Team Ant skills when we needed help and a friend was there to give us some.

Designing different hats

We’ve had a great first week back in 1D! It’s been very busy but we’ve done an amazing job at collaborating and working as a team to get the jobs done. We’ve started learning our new writing text this week, based on The King’s Hat. We designed our own hats that are fit for a king. There was some amazing colours and designs!

Nativity, advent and crafts

The last couple of weeks have been busy, busy, busy in 1D! We’ve had lots of Christmassy fun, Nativity rehearsals, and the real performances! The children worked so hard and I’m so proud of the effort that they all put in, and the teamwork that was shown through their collaboration.

In RE lessons we’ve also been learning about the birth of Jesus, creating our own stables using our collage skills. We could tell each other the different visitors that Mary and Joseph had, the gifts they were given, and the order that the story happened in. We were sp impressed!
With the start of advent we’ve really enjoyed having a few different things around school to celebrate. You might have been lucky enough to have already seen the one we’ve been doing in class. We’ve been coming up with a list of all the amazing things that someone does to make them a great part of the team that is 1D. It’s so lovely hearing all the positive things we have to say about each other, sharing why we are thankful for that person.

Soup making

This week we have been looking at how to make soup! For our Hot Write next week, we will be writing a set of instructions on how to make a vegetable soup. We all had a go at part of the instructions, and we will be writing our own next week. We even got to try our soup, lots of us really liked it!

Writing

We’ve been working so hard on our Writing over the last few weeks. Last week, one of our challenges was to ask questions about the United Kingdom before we learn the answers in our Geography lessons this half term. We’ve also been trying really hard with our Slow Writes in the morning, something we do to help us get into our learning mindset first thing in the morning,

Black History Month

Last month was Black History Month and we learned about lots of different important people. During provision we had some jigsaws out which were a hit! We worked in teams to match the different pictures, here’s one that we made of Barack Obama.
